Risk Disclosure
Last updated: 2 Oct 2026
This Risk Disclosure applies to the O-Hyphen website, the O-Hyphen application, and all trade signals, analytics, and content we provide (collectively, the “Service”). By using the Service you acknowledge and accept the risks described below. If you do not accept them, do not use the Service.
1. Educational service — not investment advice
O-Hyphen is an educational, rule-based trade signal and journaling service. We are not a broker-dealer, investment adviser, commodity trading advisor, or asset manager, and we do not provide personalized investment, legal, accounting, or tax advice. Nothing in the Service — including any signal, email, dashboard, or AI insight — is a recommendation tailored to your financial situation, objectives, or risk tolerance. You are solely responsible for your own investment decisions.
2. We never trade your account
O-Hyphen does not execute trades, hold customer funds, or manage customer accounts. Signals are delivered to you, and any order is placed by you, in your own brokerage account, at your own discretion and risk. Optional broker connections (for example Alpaca or TradeZero) are read-only and are used exclusively for journaling and analytics.
3. Hypothetical backtested performance — inherent limitations
Performance figures presented on this site are hypothetical backtested results unless explicitly stated otherwise. They were produced by applying a strategy’s rules retroactively to historical minute data with daily fallback, and they have serious inherent limitations:
- Hypothetical results are prepared with the benefit of hindsight and do not involve financial risk. No representation is being made that any account will or is likely to achieve profits or losses similar to those shown.
- Our published canonical reference includes fixed slippage of 25 basis points (0.25%) on each fill. It excludes commissions and does not fully model fees, market impact, variable spreads, liquidity constraints or execution delays. Actual trading costs can be greater.
- Backtests cannot fully account for the effect of financial risk in actual trading, including the ability to withstand losses or adhere to a strategy through drawdowns.
- Hypothetical performance does not represent live trading, and actual results would likely have differed — possibly materially.
Our published canonical backtest covers 4 Jan 2021 – 1 Oct 2026, starting with $100,000. It uses QQQ signals from IEX minute data and TQQQ execution prices from SIP minute data, with IEX daily fallback and equity marks. Monthly allocation uses a completed assessment of QQQ daily total-return volatility. The adopted October 2026 version includes late-session selloff protection observed on IEX TQQQ data and pre-close extension profit taking. Intraday decisions fill at the next executable minute open; completed-close decisions fill at the next session open. Sparse minute coverage and fallback data limit precision. This reference supersedes the older daily-bar approximation.
Maximum drawdown is measured from peaks to troughs in daily closing equity; intraday losses may be worse. Trade counts and win rates use closed tranches, including partial exits and allocation adjustments, rather than complete flat-to-flat positions. Lower exposure can reduce participation in recoveries as well as declines. The strategy parameters were selected using these histories, so this is not an independent out-of-sample result. A longer historical SIP experiment is separate and is not the benchmark displayed on this website. View the published benchmark data.
4. Past performance does not guarantee future results
No performance figure — backtested or live, ours or anyone else’s — guarantees, predicts, or implies future results. Markets change, and any strategy can experience extended periods of losses or underperformance.
5. Risk of loss — leveraged ETFs
Trading securities involves substantial risk of loss and is not suitable for every investor. The Service’s signals may involve leveraged exchange-traded funds such as TQQQ, which seek to deliver a multiple (for example, 3×) of the daily return of an underlying index. Leveraged ETFs:
- magnify both gains and losses, and can lose value very quickly;
- are subject to daily rebalancing and compounding effects, so their returns over periods longer than one day can differ significantly from the stated multiple of the index’s return;
- can lose substantial value in volatile or sideways markets even if the underlying index is flat;
- can, in extreme market conditions, lose most or all of their value.
You should never trade with money you cannot afford to lose, and you should carefully consider whether leveraged products are appropriate for you.
6. Options risk
If you choose to implement any strategy concept using options in your own account, be aware that options involve substantial risk and are not suitable for all investors. Options can expire worthless, can lose value rapidly, and certain options strategies can expose you to losses exceeding your initial investment. Before trading options, read the Options Clearing Corporation’s “Characteristics and Risks of Standardized Options” document available from your broker.
7. Signal timing and delivery risk
Signals are generated by automated rules and delivered by email and in the app. Delivery can be delayed, filtered, or fail entirely due to factors outside our control (email providers, connectivity, outages). Prices available to you at execution may differ materially from the prices assumed by a signal. The strategy rules may also produce losses, long stretches without signals, or signals that are later reversed.
8. Audit accounts
Each O-Hyphen strategy trades a dedicated brokerage “audit account” whose track record is displayed in the app. Audit accounts are traded by O-Hyphen for transparency purposes; their results are real-money results for those specific accounts but are not a promise of what you will achieve, and they remain subject to all of the risks described above.
9. Trade at your own risk
You alone decide whether to act on any signal. By using the Service you agree that all trading decisions and their consequences are entirely your own, and that O-Hyphen, its owners, and its employees are not liable for any losses arising from your use of the Service. If you are unsure whether this kind of trading is appropriate for you, consult a licensed financial adviser before subscribing.
